I have chosen a Sauer Mod 100 Pandera as my new all-around hunting rifle. In the past I used a lot of different rifles for specific hunting applications and I still will. There is no gun which is perfect for everything. However I came to the conclusion that I want one rifle for my day to day needs. It has to be robust, reliable, accurate not to heavy and where I am not worried about some nicks and dings…..

In the past I carried a Blaser K 95 as a stalking and mountain rifle, because of its light weight and the easy transport as it is a take down rifle. Due to 2 barrels I had the option of 243 win and 7x65r which covered my needs…

But to tell the truth, I was always worried about a nick in the wood stock, the bad weather and so forth….I like the classic look, the wood and so one. What can I say, I like my guns and I hate to “hurt” them….

Then there is the CZ in 375 Holland and Holland, one of my favorite cartridges and I have used it with the appropriate bullet choice on everything from small to dangerous game with great success. She is well used but taken care of, the only downside is weight. To make her even more versatile I should exchange the scope to one with bigger magnification range like a Zeiss V8 1.8x 14 x50, but this adds even more weight.

Another one which I favor is a Sako Mod 85 in 222 Rem. Easy to carry a good shooter but as a main go to rifle the caliber is to small to be versatile. The wood stock also needs to be maintained…

Then there is my Sabatti Evo in 308 with a S&B 5x25x56 which doubles as a long range hunting and long range shooting rifle. It is precise and easy to shoot but hard to carry with more then 8 kg

When I needed “more gun”, I even carried a Sako TRG 42 in 338 Lapua Magnum in the field, but then again it is a specialized gun and not a every day carry..

So I hope the Sauer 100 in 308 Win will step up to my expectations. With a 20 inch barrel, it will not be to cumbersome, even with a suppressor. By adding a lightweight scope ( Swarovski x5 3.5-18×44) the weight will be around 3.5 kg , the synthetic stock is low maintenance …..

Time will tell if I have found my all-around hunting rifle….
